What makes Coleman’s models one of the best inflatable hot tubs on the market is not their superior quality or their advanced heater and pumps but their affordability. All of the models from Coleman’s line of products are very similar in terms of functionality to other brands like Bestway and Intex but are a notch cheaper and, therefore, much more desirable. In this review, we will dive deeper into the specifications of this tub and see why it can very well be your next backyard accessory!
Overview and Features
One of the main points that stick out is the price. There are a lot of mid-range tubs that are around 500-600 dollars but almost none of them come with this level of comfort and functionality. The build quality here is another aspect that really sets this model apart from the other budget and mid-priced hot tubs. In fact, let’s start by discussing how this tub is made.
Construction & Build Quality
This Coleman hot tub is designed to provide the most structural rigidity possible combined with comfortable sidewalls. The way they’ve achieved this is by having the common Beam construction which has internal beams integrated into the walls a few inches apart from one another. Those beams allow the wall to inflate evenly and hold it up in one place once it is fully inflated. By being there, they also allow you to push either part of the wall without affecting the rest of the hot tub. Lastly, you can lay on the wall without sinking in it, making it feel almost as if you’re laying on a normal hot tub wall but slightly softer. This is one of the most appealing features when it comes to similar inflatable models that have the same internal wall structure.
The synthetic material used here is a 3-ply polymer which is puncture-proof and quite resistant to the constant sun and other nature’s elements. The bottom of the hot tub is one of its only weaknesses since it is a bit too thin. Of course, that can be fixed with a ground cover/rug but this doesn’t come in your package and the good ones cna cost you quite a bit of money on top of your purchase.
Dimensions and Capacity
In terms of overall dimensions, this hot tub is fairly compact, even though it is rated to be able to fit up to 6 people. In my opinion, it works best with 4 adults and 2 children or 6 children. In almost no scenario will it be able to fit 6 normal-sized adults inside. It is 77 inches wide with an internal space of only 57 inches which is 5-10 inches less than some other 6-person models and is the reason why it can’t comfortably fit that many adults inside. It is 28 inches tall which is around the average for the industry. When it comes to water capacity, it can fit 242 gallons, although you shouldn’t fill more than 200 when you’re going to host more than 2-3 people inside, otherwise the water will overflow and you would’ve wasted time and energy heating it up for nothing.
Heater & Jets
The heater here is fairly standard and it can heat up a 200-gallon tub with just around a few degrees per hour making it super slow. In general, if you’re looking for a hot tub that heats up in hours, you’re in for some tough luck since there are no current models that have such a powerful heater or not any inflatable ones, at least. The maximum temperature here is 104 degrees as it is in most other inflatable hot tubs.
The other cool thing here is that there are 114 bubble jets. This number is quite higher than the average of around 80 which most budget and mid-priced models have. These jets work with the air from the multi-function pump and are quite powerful for an inflatable model. They do give a real Jacuzzi vibe to the whole experience making other similar models really work for their money in order to catch up.
On top of all that, this hot tub can be set up 3 full days prior to being used thanks to its delayed heater start. Once it is fully heated up, it can use its power-saving timer feature to continue heating up only while you’re in there. Still, once fully heated, the most economical thing would be to keep the water at the maximum 104 degrees temperature, especially if you plan on using the hot tub a few days in a row.
As with other models of the SaluSpa line of products, this Coleman hot tub doesn’t require any tools to be fully set up. All you have to do is connect the water to the multi-function pump and the pump to the tub’s air and water intakes, and it will do the rest for you. The full inflation doesn’t take more than 15 minutes but the initial heat-up of the water can take up to a day depending on the surrounding temperatures. After you’ve assembled everything, you can control all of the tub’s features through the control panel which is located on top of the pump.
In terms of additional features, there aren’t many that you will be getting here apart from the standard gear you get with similar models.
The whole SaluSpa hot tub package includes the tub itself, a cover, one pump, a Chemconnect dispenser, and two filter cartridges. This has almost set as an industry standard to be the bundle you get with any inflatable hot tub and this Coleman model makes no exception, even despite its relatively cheap price. If you want to see another model with a similar capacity and features which is easier to fill up, warm-up, and maintain, I suggest checking out my Bestway Miami 4-person hot tub review. Conclusion and Rating
If you’re looking for something with a decent volume, good functionality, and an affordable price tag, then the Coleman SaluSpa Inflatable Hot Tub Spa is definitely something you should be putting on your shortlist. It is rather easy to maintain and has a lot of structural rigidity for an inflatable model. It comes with all the necessary accessories to start it up and run it for quite some time before you need to get additional items like filter cartridges or a new chlorine tablet. As a whole, there are quite a lot of similar models that directly compete with the Coleman SaluSpa series but almost none of them are at this price class. I gave it four and a half out of five stars rating!
